Summer - 2011

Where we visit Ottawa, Toronto, and the great Canadian Rockies.

Processing.js - the team

I have had the great fortune to be part of the Processingjs.org team over the past several months, and no trip to the greater Toronto area would be complete without dropping by to see what everyone actually looks like. Also, to have lunch. And of course, to get a group shot!

(Sadly not everyone was in the GTA at the time, but I'm sure we can photoshop some other people in O_O)

Notre Dame

The Notre Dame of Ottawa is ridiculous. "Gaudy opulence" does not do it justice, if justice is the correct word. Which it probably isn't.

Yes, the spires are clad in metal. As is the roof. And half the siding.

Bienvenu a Ottawa

... incidentally, you look delicious.

Maman

Probably the most photographed piece of public art in Canada. Manan.

And to be honest, the Canadian copy looks better than the one that can be found in London. That one looks more ... crudely menacing.

The safest place to be?

Smile...

it might be the last thing you do O_O

The Bureau of mines

I looked long and hard at the name of this government building.

Either this is about the harvesting of geological riches, or this is the best named defense facility in Canada, and I do NOT want to be a helping hand there.

Now that we've put up aluminum siding, we won't have to paint our tree anymore.

...

wait...

This is heritage

This is the "thank you" note the Dutch gave the Canadians for their help in ridding occupied Netherlands of the German forces at the end of world war II.

It's a hefty thank you note.

Rain's a comin'

Geese don't do access passes. If a storm's brewing, they know all the best places to chill out until it blows over.

Atop the War Museum

This is the roof of the war museum in Ottawa.

It looks like a bunker with machine guns holding up the railing.

I thought that was appropriate.

Patio Furniture

Whereas most people would use patio furniture, or a deck chair, or even a swing, Ottawa uses car seats.

Is "ghetto" a new look or something? Because it just makes your house look that bit more shoddy.

The view from the Canadian Museum of Civilisation

The view of downtown Ottawa from the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Which, incidentally, has the wrong name. It should have been calledthe "Museum of Canadian Civilisations". I hope you like first nations art.

Herbal tea ..?

Aye. "Northshore", by Noel Harding, is in fact a giant tea kettle located at Slater and Kent in Ottawa. And why yes, that's a pine tree growing out the top... and sedges sprouting out the spout.

Ottawa public art. It's there.

Butt Stop

To stop butts.

From butting, presumably.

Mutchmor public school

I just wonder whether anyone has actually realised how bad that name is for a school.
